-A Bachelor of Education is a Professional Degree Programme to provide training for those wanting to teach in Schools and other Educational Institutes. In India, Bachelors must obtain a degree in Education before they can Teach at Secondary or High School Level.

B.Ed (Bachelor Of : Education Degree)


- The BEd course is a 2 Year Undergraduate Course that provides training and knowledge to develop Qualified Teaching skills through both Practical Experience and Theoretical Background in the classroom setting.

Conditions to be Eligible for Admission to B.Ed Program

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and this degree could be a B.A., B.S.(C.E.) Or B.Com.


To be eligible students should have received their bachelor’s degree with an aggregate mark of at least 45 to 55% depending on School or College standards.


Most institutions will require that the student pass the entrance exam before getting the student admitted into the program. B.Ed entrance exams include the following; DU B.Ed Entrance Exam, IGNOU B.Ed Entrance Exam, and Various State B.Ed admission examinations.

B.Ed Course Subjects

The B.Ed program consists of an array of core as well as elective classes. Core classes offered to all students regardless of specialisation are as follows:

Educational Psychology – A study of how students learn and why they act in certain ways while they are learning.

Pedagogy of Teaching – A study of the pedagogy related to teaching multiple subjects and the use of a variety of different materials and methods in providing instruction Curriculum Development – A study of how to design and implement the curriculum for educational institutions.

Classroom Management – The use of various strategies to enhance learning and interest in learning for students within the classroom.

Assessment and Evaluation – A study of how to assess student progress.

Educational Technology – The use of technology to support instruction.

Clinical Experience and Teaching Practice (Includes at least two semesters of teaching experience).

Career Opportunities Upon Obtaining Your B.Ed.


A large number of individuals who obtain a B.Ed degree will find themselves with a vast array of career options available to them. Below, you will find examples of the six most common areas of employment for teachers with a B.Ed degree.


1. Teaching

Upon graduation from a Bachelor of Education, you will often start by obtaining your first teaching job in either a public or private school. In most provinces/territories, if you hold a Bachelor of Education you may teach in grades 6–12 based on your concentration.


2. College/University Faculty Member

If you complete a Master’s degree, you may apply for a position as a faculty member at a College or University level. By also obtaining your PhD in Education, your career options are endless.


3. Consultant

With more educational institutions, learning centres and ed-tech companies now hiring educators who hold B.Ed degrees, there is a growing demand for consultants to help create new educational programs or educational products.


4. Administrator/Principal

After gaining teaching experience, you may seek out positions as an administrator – such as a principal.
